The Mimic Control Chapter 1 Guide
Chapter Overview
Control Chapter 1 is the onboarding nightmare for The Mimic — a compact map that teaches lantern use, crouch stealth, sprint limits, and your first real encounter with Hiachi. The chapter mixes narrow indoor halls with a few open courtyards where line-of-sight matters. Expect 15–25 minutes on a first clear, less once you memorize the key route.
Your objective chain is straightforward: locate tools, solve light environmental puzzles, and reach the exit gate without burning revives on preventable mistakes. Hiachi patrols overlap the mid-chapter loop, so timing your sprint windows separates clean clears from restarts.
Before queuing, redeem active codes for Spirits and Revives, confirm controls for your platform (Shift sprint on PC, L2 on Xbox), and equip a reliable lantern from our lanterns guide.
Recommended Route
Move methodically at the start — sprint only when crossing the first outdoor gap where Hiachi cannot line you up from spawn angles. Pick up story items in the order the map presents them; skipping triggers sometimes soft-locks doors until you backtrack, wasting time Hiachi uses to reposition.
Mid-chapter, hug walls when turning blind corners. Hiachi responds to noise before visual confirmation in many rooms. Crouch-walk through tile transitions that audibly clack. If you hear the distorted giggle cue, break line of sight immediately and enter the nearest room rather than sprinting in panic.
Late chapter, puzzle rooms gate the exit. Read wall hints literally — Control's Book rarely uses red herrings in Chapter 1. Assign one player to watch rear approach if in co-op while others solve.
Hiachi Counterplay
Hiachi is a stalker-type entity introduced here and expanded in later Control chapters. She punishes sprint spam and prolonged exposure in lit hallways. Break sightlines using door frames, not open loops, unless you know the full patrol reset timer.
Lantern brightness helps you read notes but can make you visible from farther away. Toggle off briefly when hugging cover behind pillars. Hiachi sometimes pathfinds to last known noise — throw a fake sprint by tapping Shift/L2 once, then crouch the opposite direction.
See the full Control's Book entity page for Hiachi behavior tables and audio cue lists.
Common Mistakes & Badges
New players die re-running the same hall after a failed puzzle instead of resetting patrol timing. Wait five seconds at safe corners after mistakes. Another frequent fail is sprinting into the exit funnel while Hiachi is mid-chase — finish the chase loop before committing to the final corridor.
Chapter 1 badges reward no-damage segments or speed thresholds. Learn the intended route before chasing speed; Nightmare prep starts with clean vanilla clears.
When ready, continue to Control Chapter 2 where patrol overlap increases and new entities join the roster.
